Lecco (IT) is a city of 48,131 inhabitants located in Lombardy, Northern Italy, 50 kilometers from Milan. It is situated at the southeastern end of Como Lake. To the North and East, it is surrounded by the Bergamo Alps, which are crossed by Valsassina, of which Lecco marks the southernmost point. The lake narrows to form Adda River, and bridges have been built to improve road connections to Como and Milan. There are four bridges that cross the Adda River in Lecco: the Azzone Visconti Bridge (1336-1338), the Kennedy Bridge (1956), the Alessandro Manzoni Bridge (1985), and a railway bridge.
In 2013, Lecco was also named Alpine City of the Year. Elevated to a province by the decree of the President of the Republic on March 6th, 1992, Lecco was granted the title of a city on June 22, 1848. It is renowned for being the setting of Alessandro Manzoni’s ‘The Betrothed’.
In Lecco in under restoration the Teatro della Società, designed by the Lecco architect Giuseppe Bovara, inspired by the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and built in 1843-44 in neoclassical style.
Since 2022, it has been advancing the development of Renewable Energy Communities to address the need to increase the use of renewable sources in local energy production, contributing to decarbonization goals and reducing energy dependence.

The establishment of the first Reuse Center in the Municipality of Lecco, aimed at realizing waste reduction and circular economy principles through activities involving the collection, preparation for reuse, and transfer of still-usable consumer goods (e.g., furniture, sports equipment, clothing, household items, etc.).
Lecco is engaged in Environmental Education and Sustainability, especially in a three-year project promoted in Lecco schools. The objectives of the initiative include: Raising awareness and educating citizens, specifically high school students, encouraging a critical review of their own behaviors. The program focused participants on how recycling behaviors depend on individual decisions within a given context. Lecco believes in CUSTOMIZED ENERGY: energy policies in a changing world. The C-ENERGY – CERV TT Project aims to initiate a specific dialogue on energy policies and climate change by exchanging best practices between the Municipality of Lecco and the Municipality of Szombathely, twinned cities since 1995.
